Katharina Grosse

Katharina Grosse is a Berlin Based German artist widely known for creating abstract pieces that span across mediums of painting, sculpture, prints and installation. Her work often involves painting directly onto surfaces of architecture or landscapes in vivid bright hues of color, in many cases using a spray gun of paint rather than a brush. Through this her practice blurs the distinction between painting and sculpture. The work, though varying in medium, retains a strong use of line and a blurred sense of texture that has become signature to Grosse’s style. As a major influence in today’s contemporary art scene, Grosse’s work has been exhibited in prominent institutions such as the Center Popmpidou, the MoMA, and Istanbul Modern.
