Kenny Scharf
Kenny Scharf is an American contemporary artist, currently based in California, who came up in the interdisciplinary art scene in 1980’s New York. His work spans across mediums of painting, sculpture, and installation and centers around a use of vivid color and cartoon-like curves and characters. Scharf is considered one of the pioneers of the street art movement, spearheading the graffiti art movement in its earliest iterations in the East Village in New York. His style exhibits a cultural relevance and pop sensibility that is present throughout his body of work. Scharf makes it a point in his work to sustain a connection to pop-culture, and stands firm in his belief to reach beyond the confines of an elitist fine art bubble.
